Rides:
Age has slowed me down a bit. I find it harder
to work with my current stick: 5' 6" thruster. Looking for someone
to cut it down, reshape & reglass into a 42" knee-machine. Gotta
pick up a longer board for playing on the w/ends.
Club Introduction:
Local surf zone: The jetty
on the south beach of Cape Henelopen Park, Lewes entrance - when there's
not too many folks. The waves have been a bit better on the south jetty,
Gordon's Pond. When the storms kick up, I'll head up to RI, Sakonnet Point
(Little Compton, RI). There is a rocky beach at the end of Round
Pond where I learned to ride back in the late 60's - lugging around a 8'
Hobie Wedge. Glory days thru the early 70's, boards got shorter.
A friend made me a knee-machine from extra foam and I discovered the thrill
of ripping into waves big-small-fast-slow. The bottom never changes.
On a good day, the swell jacks up over the rock reef about 200 yards out
and produces 7'-10' backside barrels. We blew off a ride with a friend's
sister to Woodstock because it was a good day.
Was up there 2 1/2 weeks
ago. FLAT. Checked out a spot we called Secrets (our "secret spot",
we were the first to surf the perfect right, discovered while looking for
stripers). Ran into a couple of guys early one morning while checking
the swell. They laughed - there are no more secrets, said after a
storm there'd be 50 vehicles parked on the landing overlooking the cliffs,
above a beach with no sand.
Bethesda is my home town.
I live on Capitol Hill with my wife. My mother lives in Lewes and
enjoys our company on the weekends.
