OC Surfrider Longboard Challenge

Time: Dawn Patrol till Dark
Location: On the Ocean City beach, at 37th Street.

(Click on pic for the report)
Long time members
know this event as the Toes on the Nose, or TOTN. The ASC has supported this fun Surfrider Foundation Ocean City
Chapter fundraiser since the Club began. The
ASC approaches the contest as a great social event, which helps promote
surfing. Last year we fielded a couple of teams and they were supported
by a strong contingent on the beach. Our teams have traditionally been
composed of participants from a variety of wave riding vehicles. Some
had never been on a longboard before. This year, Giles Cook has
volunteered to captain our effort. Contact Giles by private message
and
join the team. We usually gather the day before to prime our
drinking pumps and stake out the sleeping arrangements. Last year many
Club members
camped at Assateague with good friends, children and a herd of wild
ponies while others stayed at Castle in the Sand (the contest venue).
Friday night is the OCSF's Legends Night (free food at 7pm). Plans are
to have a Club BBQ after the Saturday contest and surf session at
Gile's place in Delaware (directions will be posted on the Forum
and Portal). Keep an eye on the forum posts to join in on the entire
weekend. The BBQ is a private party for members and guests only.

ASC 5th Anniversary & Family Day
Date of Event: August 19, 2006 (Saturday, raindate: August 20th, Sunday)
Time: 10:00am until 2:00pm
Location: Assateague National Seashore - Park at the South Beach Lot
This
is another great weekend at the beach for the ASC. This is the
event that invites anyone to come learn about surfing and the ASC. We
offer an event filled day of surf lessons, group expression sessions
and water safety awareness information. When the Wave Gods do not
provide swell for the event, we bump up the fun with surfboard polo,
beach volleyball and sand castle contests. This is a
bring-a-dish-and-drink event, that offers a best dish contest. The Club
kicks in for the
grilled sandwiches. Grandparents,
infants and your spouse or special friend are also welcome. All will be entertained and some will get the surf
bug. This event is currently un-sponsored as a weekend event, but keep
checking the forum. You never know who wants to party long and late. Click here for a flyer.
Camping
at Assateague National Seashore: Two adjacent walk-in sites have been
reserved. It is about a 100 yards walk from the parking lot. One spot
is already commited to a member's family - the other spot is being
coordinated. For more details see the Forum thread. These
spots are
near the south parking lot area of the Assateague National Seashore
park. Drive in and group sites were no longer available.Other spots may
still be available - if you are interested check the reservations link
below.
